The Blue Ridge Parkway in October is more beautiful than ever
October 11-14, 2003

Spotted this tree in Cherokee, NC, just south of the Parkway itself

The Woolyback Overlook at the Parkway's southern end

Valleys below the mountains provide breathtaking views

I just love the way the closer scenery is in shade while the valley below is lit up

Just to give an idea of the scale, that pine tree is over 40' tall

Lovely autumn colors were everywhere throughout the whole trip

Lookinglass Mountain is one of the nation's premier rock-climbing meccas

The majestic Grandfather Mountain outside of Blowing Rock, NC

This was just behind the sub shop in Banner Elk, NC

The tall one on the right is Beech Mountain

Dappled light on the hills near sunset in Banner Elk

The last rays of the sun peeking out from behind Sugar Beech

The dawn colors reflected in a motorcycle fuel tank

I just stopped on the Parkway to take this shot over the windshield.

Beech leaves at a stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway

I love the way the mountains receed into the distance

The Valley between the Blue Ridge and Shennandoah ranges

Autumn colors simply covered the hillsides

The leaves each change according to their own schedules

Little farmsteads are scattered throughout these mountains

Another of these beautiful round trees - this one near Harrisonburg, VA
